American Collectors Insurance is using the new tools of social media to invite its agent partners and customers to interact online.
A provider of specialty insurance for collector vehicles and collectibles since 1976, American Collectors has launched a Facebook page, Twitter feed, and blogs for consumers and insurance agents.
“Car lovers and other collectors are tapping into social networking tools to feed their passion for what they collect,” explained Laura Bergan, vice president of marketing for American Collectors Insurance. “We want to meet them there. Our goal in social media is to help our company and the insurance brokers we work with to listen more closely and respond more effectively to consumers’ needs.”
Bergan pointed out: “Social networking does many things for collectors. It’s the fastest way to showcase their prized collections for others on a one-to-one basis. We’re an expert in hobby news and information, and know this is also a speedy way to find advice about collecting and collections.”
American Collectors has added social media tools:
— a Facebook page (found by searching “American Collectors Insurance”) that offers videos, blog links, and other content on autos, automobilia, collectibles and more
— a Twitter feed (username: @AmerCollectIns) that “tweets” on topics related to collectibles, collector cars, and risk management for collectors
— “Collector Central,” a blog (www.AmericanCollectors.com/blog) for collectors
— “Agent Exchange Blog,” a blog (www.AmericanCollectors.com/Agents/) for insurance brokers
Collectors have already made collectibles the largest-volume category of sales on auction site eBay, and American Collectors sees them jumping at the social networking opportunities the Web offers.
Protecting what they collect is an important issue for collectors, Bergan noted. “Collectors need and want advice about risk management and insurance for their collector vehicles and collectibles, and we want American Collectors and our broker partners to be right there when consumers have those questions.”
