The South Portland Food Cupboard (SPFC) is organizing its monthly Cars & Coffee events, set to take place on the second Saturday of each month from May through October, with an exception in August for the annual Fundraiser Car Show. The events will be hosted in the parking lot at The Maine Mall located at the intersection of Gorham Road and Philbrook Avenue. Scheduled dates include May 11, June 8, July 13, Sept. 14, and Oct. 12 from 8 am to 11 am, weather permitting. There is a $10 entry fee for show cars, with all proceeds being donated to SPFC’s initiative “Feeding Neighbors in Need.” The event aims to raise awareness and funds to support the weekly distribution of food, which amounts to 17 tons across southern Maine. Additionally, the event will feature on-site food trucks. SPFC has set rules for the event to ensure a respectful atmosphere: no sideshows, burnouts, donuts, revving, hooning, or loud music will be tolerated. The gathering is being held with the cooperation of The Maine Mall, and appropriate behavior is encouraged to maintain this relationship. Police will be present, and any illegal activities will be reported. Donations are welcomed, with the organization accepting cash, Venmo, and CashAPP, as well as non-perishable food items and monetary donations. The Cars & Coffee event serves as a means to support the SPFC’s ongoing efforts to combat food scarcity from their location at 130 Thadeus Street, South Portland, Maine.
